Along with the tournament, the ever popular Battle of the Sexes will be happen again this year. The five-end game will determine who gets to hoist the beautiful Salmon Cup Trophy for 2024. The top three men’s and women’s teams will be vying for this masterpiece, a great example of true west coast art. A perfectly cylindrical salmon can in a lovely black matte finish which sits affixed a piece of genuine B.C. scrap lumber will be there for the winners to hold and celebrate. It’s a lot of fun to watch and cheer on your favourite team. Sign up, have fun and we’ll see you on the green.

Novice and Intermediate Bowlers Shine in Club Tournament
It was pretty hot in Parksville on the weekend, but even hotter on the green as the novice and intermediate lawn bowlers took to the green to showcase their skills. The Club Singles Novice and Intermediate Championship started on Saturday morning and wound up on Sunday afternoon with the final winners declared in both the men’s and women’s event. On the men’s side, the novice winner was James Sloan. Intermediate winner was Bob Merrell who was also the overall winner of both Group A & B. On the women’s novice side, Debbie Taylor came through to capture her event, while the Women’s Intermediate Championship went to Karen Perrin.
A very big thank you goes out to the following : the set-up and take down crew, greens people, markers, Lynn in the kitchen, bartenders, Chuck Benson (photos), Sandi Mitchell (ump. etc.), spectators, games committee and to the players who made this all possible.
On August 10th and 11th, the above winners will represent our club in the District Championships to be held in Port Alberni. Our winner from last year, Bob Ashton, has also been invited back to Port Alberni to defend his title. If you can, please come out and support your fellow club members in this event. Carol Bucyk

Mark Your Calendars & Get Ready for Some Fun
Ever thought about proving your lawn bowling skills? Here’s your chance to have some fun in the process, too. It’s the last chance to sign up for the Men’s and Women’s Club Singles Championship. Registration closes on August 5th, and the singles play is set for August 13, 14, & 15th.
Also on the horizon is the Jack and Jill Mixed Pairs Event coming up on August 28th and 29th. Registration starts online on August 7th. A few simple rules for this event: No spouses together, no two skips on a team and you can’t have played with the same Jack or Jill before. This tournament is a lot of fun, so ladies get out there and ask away. There are men just waiting for your call or email.
Finally, The Cowichan Parksville Challenge will be held on Tuesday, September 10th with the Cowichan Club hosting. Here’s your chance to experience lawn bowling at the Cowichan club and experience their great hospitality. If interested, there is a sign up sheet in the sun room.
