Here is an opportunity for bowlers to qualify as a Marker for the first time and for those whose certification expired in 2023 to renew. District Head Umpire Rod Tester will be teaching a half day course in the morning of Friday July 12th here in Parksville.
A marker plays an important role in Singles games, both as a helper to the two players and helping to ensure that certain Laws of the Sport are complied with by both players. The clinic offers a way to improve your own game, your measuring skills and your knowledge of the Laws of the Sport.
The price is right, there is no charge for this clinic. You just need to spend that morning learning.
A sign up sheet has been posted in the sunroom for all members who wish to take this very informative clinic. If you have never taken this clinic before you are encouraged to do so.
I am currently preparing the 2024 Club Directory. It will go to the printers by the end of this week. If you have not renewed your membership for any reason please do so, in order to be included in the directory.
BOWLS BC CARDS AND RECEIPTS
These are ready for you to pick up on the table in the sun porch.
Friday morning coaching is there for all players, all levels of play, who are looking for help with any part of their game. Your coaches will have set up different challenges for you to practice which will help you if you want to improve your game skills. If you need help and cannot make the Friday morning session, please let me know through our website under Player Development and we can find a better time. You may also request the help of any of the coaches.
On Thursday May 16th our Club hosted the Presidents Cup for the 6 Vancouver Island North and Powell River District Clubs.
The comments we received from a large part of the participants were so great that I felt the need to pass these accolades along to our Volunteers who spend many hours to make our PLBC one of the best in BC.
We had excellent comments on our bowling green, the pleasing surrounding gardens, the inviting entrance to our club and the friendliness of our all members that were at yesterday’s event.
The club house was decorated wonderfully for all the participants to enjoy.
Also comments were complimentary on our new scoreboards
I felt is was necessary to send this message out to the membership to let all the volunteers know andshare the extremely good comments we received.Without all the hard work from all the many volunteers we would not be receiving such wonderful comments.
Just to summarizeit makes me very proud as your President to be part of this amazing club.
From
Your President Trevor Motley and PLBC board members
The new pavement at the club entrance has been completed and the Bowls Shed has been repaired.
The front of the club house will soon receive a new coat of paint.
The new benches have been completed and add a pleasing complement to our green. Thank you to Fortis for providing much needed labour and assistance in getting the benches completed.
Many thanks to the volunteers who have worked hard to plan for and complete these projects.
The community is expressing more interest and awareness for lawn Bowling and exploring the sport that we all enjoy so much.
PGOSA has begun their rental schedule on Wednesdays evenings from 6:30 to 8:30.
Other groups that will be visiting and trying out the game include Fortis employees who have been so helpful in the installation of our new benches, City Hall staff who will rent the green for one session and a class of students from Balenas Secondary school for one session as part of their Life Skills program.
Miriam Gunn (fund raising director) has created a plan to provide Memorial Plaques to be mounted on the new benches. If you are interested in memorializing a friend or family member in this way, please contact Miriam for more information.
Watch for advertising on our new scoreboards which will contribute significantly to our revenues. Thanks go to Miriam for her hard work in seeking out new fundraising ventures for the club and to Mick Banks for preparing the templates for displaying the ads.
We welcome 27 new members to our club this year. We are very happy to have you join us.
We are still looking for a Social Director for the club. If you would like to find out more about this position, please contact any member of the Board. In the meantime, we thank Andy Cruickshank for hosting the social time following the Tuesday morning draw and to Lynn Hutchinson who will be organizing coffee, tea and goodies for tournaments.
If you wish to contact any Board member please go to the Board of Directors page on the website and click the email icon to send a message.
We have been advised that this tournament will be going ahead. Please register your team by notifying The Ewan Family at esewen@gmail.co at your earliest opportunity to ensure you secure a spot for your team. There will only be 16 spots for teams.
